Dem Senator Johnson surrenders on Alito...

Sigh... Can you believe it?  Now Senator Tim Johnson says he is voting for Alito.  Let's hope the rest hold strong.  There's still room for a filibuster in the numbers.  Let's hope...

Here's Johnson's capitulation:

Bad, bad news for Hillary...

I wonder if Hillary thinks her move to the right was smart now?  We need a candidate who is a TRUE progressive NOT someone like Hillary who throws us the occassional bone while she feints right.

Read the bad polling news for ol' Hillary here:

Someone PLEASE tell Sheehan to SHUT UP!

I'm against the war, have been since the beginning.  I'm a dedicated Howard Dean liberal and proud of it.  But, while earlier expressing support for her I have always been a bit leery of Cindy Sheehan.

I loved that she was tweaking Bush but lets face it:  having your son die does not necessarily qualify your position one way or the other (there are -- of course -- many, many mothers of dead soldiers who support the war... which doesn't make their position right).  Plus, she was always just enjoying all the attention a bit too much.  When the right wing called her a "media whore" I objected profusely but secretly sort of knew what they meant.

Then she started injecting herself in the Israel-Palestine issue and she started to lose me.

NOW, she's down in Venezuela making nice with that despot Hugo Chavez?!  Sorry, but being a liberal does not make me an enemy of the United States, in fact just the opposite.  And that means that just because Chavez is the enemy of my enemy (George Bush) that does NOT make him my friend.

He is a despot and an enemy of democracy. Her support of Chavez and her willingness to get involved there is an embarrassment and I want nothing more to do with her.

Here's her latest distracting sillyness:

Frightening Canadian Election Results...

The frightening Canadian election results are an indication of just how hard we have to work to take our country back. Just months ago liberals in Canada were elated (as elated as everyone seems to be on this site about our chances come election day)about their future. They seemed to lead in every poll and fully expected to stay in power. But then the conservatives went to work. This is a theme that I have repeated and often get flamed for. It is silly that all these months out from the election many on this site and other Democratic sites seem to think we have things all sown up. People seem to forget that in February and March of 2004 Kerry led Bush in most polls by 5 - 10 points. Well, we know how little those polls meant on election day. The party of a president at midterms of his second term is supposed to lose dramatically. Yet, we seem to be getting all excited about the possibility of picking up a few seats and still leaving the bastards in power. Picking up a few seats in this midterm would be a horrible defeat and repudiation for our party. Please understand what I am saying. The evil Repugs haven't even begun to fight back. When they do, it'll be Rove-led and it will be timed to peak on election day. I love seeing Bush's numbers down but I am just terrified at how little that seems to be translating into help for us even in these current very early polls. We have to work and work and donate and donate. We also have to change minds. One problem we seem to share is thinking that everyone thinks the way we do. In my job I am surrounded by Republicans. They are just as flabbergasted that I vote Democratic as I am that they vote Republican. But, the sad news that none of you like to hear and don't seem to want to admit is: THERE IS MORE OF THEM THEN THERE IS OF US. That's why we have to change minds. And we have to do it without hatred or vitriol. Please keep in mind that if a conservative gets mad at a conservative leader (say George Bush) that doesn't at all mean that suddenly that conservative will vote for a liberal next time. Besides, Bush's numbers actually mean very little: He's not running for anything. Let's stop the silly and inexperienced glee over the few polls that show good news for us and work like we are far behind and as if the very future of our country depended on it: because it does.

Zogby Poll says Senate News NOT good...

Zogby's latest Senate polling is on today's Wall Street Journal news site at www.wsj.com on the top right hand side of the page.

His polling -- and keep in mind he is an admitted liberal and Democrat-cheerleader whose polls often lean more Democrat than actual voting turns out (I say this not because I don't like Zogby but as a warning because his polls are often optimistic to our side) -- has at best a possible pick up of one seat for us in the Senate.

My point is NOT to spread bad news.  My point is I think all of the nonsense and elation I am reading on my liberal sites is crazy and may cost us the election.  I'm afraid everyone is going to think that wins by our side are a forgone conclusion and just stop working.

REMEMBER, in the spring of 2004 Kerry was leading Bush by 12 - 15 points, and we know what the actual results were just months later.  The Republicans haven't even yet begun to fight back.  Take Pennsylvania for example.  If you really think the Reeps and Santorum are just gonna take a loss you are crazy.  I don't care what the polls say now, that race will be a squeaker and when it comes down to it I wouldn't be surprised to see that Nazi Santorum pull it out.  Especially now with Lynn Swann in the gubernatorial race (notice that he is TIED with Ed Rendell in the polls).

I am also concerned that complacency on our part will result in a lower than necessary turn out on election day.  Remember:  the Repugs know how to get their vote out!

We are SUPPOSED to pick up seats substantially in the midterm elections of the second term of the other party's presidency.  Moderate pick ups would actually be a loss for our side.  Right now -- before the Repugs have even begun to fight back -- polls indicate right at ZERO pick ups.

If you want an example of the kind of liberals-just-talking-to-each-other daydreaming I am talking about check out the posts on this site and others like it in the last week or so leading up to election day 2004.  Everyone was talking about a Kerry landslide and other such nonsense!

WE HAVE TO FIGHT EVERY DAY RIGHT UP TO ELECTION DAY AS IF WE ARE WAY BEHIND.  And let me tell you this:  right now we are.  Right now a moderate pick up by us would be the best we could hope for.

If we really are the "Reality Based" community then let's act like it.

Daschle says he may run for Prez...

Gee, I bet he'll regret all the "I love Bush, too" rhetoric he tried handing out in his losing reelection bid.

I'm just not sure what I think.  What about you?

Polls at this point mean NOTHING...

Remember how well Dean was polling in December of 2003 in Iowa and New Hampshire?  Well, we all painfully know how that turned out.

Remember Kerry's polling numbers versus Bush in Spring of 2004?  Most polls had Kerry up 12 points or so.  Boy, that turned out well.

My point is simple.  NONE of these polls mean a thing right now.  We have to work and work and continue to work to defeat the Reeps right up to election day of 2006.

Are we really foolish enough to think that the Reeps are planning on just accepting a defeat?  We have to work harder and smarter!

Another Democratic Senate Surrender...

So our Democratic "leaders" in the senate are wimping out again.  Here's an article detailing Feinstein's surrender:

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060115/D8F58K600.html

If Alito is so passively being allowed to move onto the Supreme Court by Democrats you have to wonder just who would be unacceptable.

The consistent weakness of Democrat leaders again has me wondering if a third party isn't the answer.
